M + I + L: Why These Three Systems Need to Work Together

Mitochondria, immune, and the lymphatic system are usually discussed as separate topics. In the body, however, they constantly interact. Immune cells need mitochondrial energy to function. Mitochondria respond to inflammatory signals. The lymphatic system transports immune cells and helps maintain the fluid environment surrounding tissues. Changes in one area can influence the others.

This interconnected relationship is what we call the Mitochondrial-Immune-Lymphatic Axis, or MILA. It provides a framework for asking why symptoms that appear unrelated can sometimes occur together. Fatigue, poor recovery, inflammatory complaints, brain fog, and other concerns may involve overlapping biological systems rather than completely separate processes.

RESTORE MILA uses this framework to look at the whole person. It does not mean every symptom has the same cause. It means we should be careful about treating the body as a collection of unrelated parts. When we understand the connections, we can make more thoughtful decisions about what needs support and in what order.
